Are perovskite materials suitable for photovoltaic applications?
Herein, we report a brief review among the various emerging perovskite materials for photovoltaic applications to gain knowledge of the properties and characteristics of perovskites for utilization in solar cells and its future scope by which we could ultimately decide what measures and changes need to be done in the PV world. 1. Introduction
What is the future of perovskite solar cells?
The future of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is bright, with newer developments in material science and engineering being carried out to improve upon the efficiency of the cells, search for lead-free perovskite materials, work on the scalability of the technology and integration of flexible and multi-junction perovskite solar cells.
Are perovskite solar cells a disruptive technology?
Silicon is still the most popular technology, whereas thin-film technologies seek application perspectives and cost-effectiveness. Clearly, perovskite solar cells are disruptive in the sense of high efficiency, low cost, and continuous enhancement in stability in the solar industry.
How many patents are there in perovskite PV?
As perovskite PV research advances, growing commercial activity is emerging. This is illustrated in a recent review of the patent literature. There are over 2,000 filed and 300 granted patents in perovskite PVs 38. A chart of the number of patents assigned, per top assignees is shown in Fig. 3a.
Are inorganic perovskite PV cells effective?
Inorganic perovskite PV cells have been given special emphasis here due to their non-toxicity, thermal stability and flexibility. One remarkable improvement is that their efficiency is increased to 24.11 % from 7.11 % in less than five years.
Are perovskites a good choice for solar cells?
Within a decade, its efficiency has been reported to have increased to 25 % which makes perovskites an excellent contender for solar cell materials for future generations , , , , .
