Photovoltaic glass affects transmittance

The transmittance of photovoltaic glass is related to the photovoltaic coverage ratio and the material thickness of the photovoltaic modules. Many studies focus on transmittance properties of the solar glass. Dust accumulation on the solar glass affects on transmittance properties. Many different dust types have been investigated, and transmittance values of the solar glass altered around 84.4% and 91% [15]. In addition, the effects of different dust types which are cement, gypsum ...

Which material has the highest spectral transmittance of solar radiation?

This study analyse spectral transmission of solar radiation of glass and plastics. The 8 h transmittances are higher than at 12 h and are higher in winter than summer. Methacrylate and smoked glass have the highest transmittance in UV, VIS and NIR ranges. Polycarbonate has the lowest transmittance in UV, VIS and NIR ranges.

Why does solar noon increase transmittance?

Another reason could be related to the mechanical properties of the materials, since thermal diffusivity is higher at a lower temperatures and this raises transmittance. At solar noon the temperature is higher, so that diffusivity is reduced and transmittance is higher.

How important are thermal and mechanical properties in a PV system?

Optimization of the mechanical and chemical properties is of course interesting and important from a PV perspective; however, the thermal properties remain the most important from the perspective of being able to manufacture the glass.

Does tinted glass reduce UVA transmission?

Tinted glass reduced transmittance to 62% and 40%, respectively. They reported values for UVA transmission by double-glazing in residential windows from 0.57 for clear and 0.2–0.33 for tinted glass. In 2014, Parisi and Turnbull described the factors that ensure quality and effectiveness in the design of shade structures.

Why are solar transmittances higher in winter than in summer?

We found that winter transmittances were higher than those in summer and were higher at 8 h solar than at noon, possibly due to the higher summer thermal level causing the network elastomers to rotate and vibrate, intercepting most of the solar radiation incident photons.

What is spectral transmittance of materials in the UV band?

Spectral transmittance of the materials in the UV band in summer at 8 solar hour on 30-July. b. Spectral transmittance of the materials in the UV band in summer at solar noon on 30-July. All materials except fibreglass showed an exponential decay of transmittance in the UVB range from 300 to 315 nm.
