Are BSPS responsible for balancing the electricity network?
BSPs can also trade and/or produce electricity, but are not responsible for balancing the electricity network. In essence, the BRP is the party responsible for the balance on the electricity network and the BSP is the party that provides the means to maintain this balance.
How do BSPS balance out unforeseen fluctuations on the electricity grid?
BSPs such as generators or demand facilities balance out unforeseen fluctuations on the electricity grid by rapidly increasing or reducing their power output, BSPs receive a capacity payment for being available when markets have closed (balancing capacity) and an energy payment when activated by the TSO in the balancing market (balancing energy).
What is the difference between BRP and BSP?
BRP stands for Balance Responsible Party, while BSP stands for Balance Service Provider. Both terms refer to the role an organization plays in the electricity market, but there is an important difference between the two. A BRP is responsible for balancing its own production, consumption, and/or trade in electricity.
What is balancing service provider (BSP)?
Balancing Service Provider (BSP) in the European Union Internal Electricty Market is a market participant providing balancing services to its Connecting TSO, or in case of the TSO-BSP Model, to its Contracting TSO.
Can a BSP commit balancing capacity to other markets?
This implies that a BSP cannot commit this capacity to other markets (such as the DAM or IDM). Reserved balancing capacity is expected to be available in real-time, i.e. they have to bid in real- time balancing energy markets.
How is a contract between BSP and a subcontractor made?
Contracts/agreements between BSP and any subcontractor are made on a civil law basis as before with a balance responsible. Svenska kraftnät is working on the implementation of the terms and conditions in accordance with the Swedish Energy Markets Inspectorate's decision where the BSP role is independent from the BRP role.
