Are external power supplies a legal requirement?
In 2020 it was finally scrapped and in its place the EU introduced the new Ecodesign 2019/1782 requirements for external power supplies, which is a legal requirement, not a voluntary one.
Can external power supplies be tested under Regulation (EU)2019/1782?
Products containing external power supplies (e.g. USB sockets) which would need to be extracted from the main product and rewired for testing, cannot be tested under Regulation (EU)2019/1782, as there are no standards or methodologies describing such operation. In such situation the Regulation cannot be enforced.
