Lilongwe Energy Storage Power Generation Project

The Lilongwe Power Plant is set to feature a 20 MW battery energy storage system (BESS), which is currently under construction at the Kanengo substation. This project, launched by the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) and the Government of Malawi, aims to stabilize Malawi's hydropower-reliant grid, enhance electricity access, and reduce carbon emissions by approximately 10,000 tonnes annually.
