When will electricity tariffs and prices be released in Portugal?
Lisbon, December 15th, 2023: The Portuguese Electricity Regulator (“ERSE”) released today the final document regarding electricity tariffs and prices in Portugal for 2024.

Currently, the cheapest electricity tariff in Portugal is Casa, by Iberdrola. However, when comparing the electricity prices, there is also very close competition between the prices offered by EDP, Endesa and Goldenergy in Portugal. With the liberalisation of the Portuguese energy market, changing electricity company or tariff has become simple.
How are electricity prices determined in Portugal?
Electricity prices in Portugal are determined by a variety of factors, including the cost of generating electricity, distribution costs, taxes, and government regulations. Currently, Portugal has one of the highest electricity prices in Europe, with prices for households and small businesses significantly above the EU average.
Can I Change my electricity company or tariff in Portugal?
With the liberalisation of the Portuguese energy market, changing electricity company or tariff has become simple. Currently, electricity contracts do not require any commitment period, which means that changing supplier can be done at any time.
How does Erse compare energy prices in Portugal?
Every six months, ERSE publishes information (PT) comparing energy prices in Portugal with other European Union countries' prices. Annually, ERSE approves tariffs and prices for electricity, valid for a calendar year (January to December). Exceptionally ERSE can approve tariffs and regulated prices for a different timeline.
