Can intelligent building skin system perform passive dehumidification in summer and solar heat collection?
In this study, we propose an intelligent building skin system that can perform passive dehumidification in summer and solar heat collection in winter by air circulation of the roof ventilation layer utilizing solar heat. The features and advantages of this proposed system are as follows.
What is passive dehumidification and solar collector?
The passive dehumidification and solar collector (PDSC) envelope system performs thermal load control (latent heat load due to dehumidification in summer, sensible heat load due to radiative cooling in summer, and solar heat collection in winter) using solar thermal energy on the external walls and the roof.
Should solar humidification-dehumidification desalination be hybridized?
Solar humidification-dehumidification desalination requires more research focus. Hybridizing desalination with other modules greatly enhances efficiency. Optimization and economic studies are recommended for these systems. Shortage of potable water resources is becoming a major and concerning threat to sustainable development.

As another case study for India, Sahoo et al. conducted a feasibility study on multi effect dehumidification water desalination based on solar-biomass polygeneration in the final section of a review paper.

The dehumidifier module performance of an HDH system affects the overall unit efficiency significantly. Therefore, the bubble column dehumidifier of a solar HDD plant was optimized using MATLAB simulation. Circulating air mass flowrate as well as the humidifier inlet water temperature were investigated as the operational conditions among others.
